Boat Trips around Ramsgate’s Coastline

Boat Trips around Ramsgate’s Coastline

Well what a fantastic and adventurous start to 2009. On a bright and increasingly warm end to the month, the bird watching has been great. A glorious calm and sunny morning last Sunday while running a seal watching boat trip we saw the arrival of summer migrants that included Swallows, Sand Martins, a House Martin, at least one Blackcap, Chiffchaffs and Wheatears. Black Redstarts remained along the shore and raptors included a Common Buzzard and a Sparrowhawk flying N.

The Common Seal colony based on the Stour mouth in which on a quick count up were 16, were in a very playful and active mood, lots of splashing and chasing each other. Its great to see the sun at last although the coastline has been very pretty over the last three months, but I don’t miss de-icing the boat before we set sail – there’s nothing pretty about that’ just cold fingers…

The Russian vessel Sinegorsk issued an alert in rough seas at 8.15am on Monday 19th January after it shed up to 1,500 tonnes of its sawn timber load around 14 miles off the coast of Newhaven, East Sussex. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency monitored the timber as it drifted steadily in a north-easterly direction towards the Dover Strait, floating onto Ramsgate.
Great if you was building a garden shed but not so good for high powered vessel like the Mona Lisa, we stayed in port for a week to ensure that we did not hit any of the floating and submerged timber. I can think of other ways to put Ramsgate on the map J
The last week the sea phone has not stopped ringing with boat bookings for throughout 2009, this has surprised me due to the current financial climate. The Galleon Cruises website is now fully up to date with all the coastal events for 2009, and we have launched some new boat trips and lunch cruises - so don’t delay and book today to avoid disappointment.
Don’t forget that we provide gift vouchers for those all-important special occasions.
