Champions head for major new event at Ramsgate

A major new event, which will see champions heading for Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour, has been launched at the London Boat Show.

The marina will play host to the European Water Ski Racing Championships from Saturday 5 until Saturday 12 July 2008. The opening ceremony will see the competitors and their boats parade through the town, with racing taking place over four separate days during the following week.

Around 70 skiers from Britain, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, France and Austria are expected to take part in the championships in a variety of races. Formula 1, 2 and 3 will be taking to the water, along with races for ladies, seniors, juniors and Eurokids from the age of 12 upwards. Competitors are likely to include former World Champion Kim Lumley, who took the Ladies silver medal at the World Championships in New Zealand in 2007. She has also won the prestigious Catalina Island race five times in the last six years and is the only European woman to ever win this event.

Tony Williams, the British Water Ski Chairman of Racing and GB Team Captain, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing the 2008 European Water Ski Racing Championships back home to Britain and to Ramsgate Royal Harbour Marina for the first time. We are very lucky to have the Marina helping us and the waters off Ramsgate should prove to be very challenging and enjoyable for the skiers. It’s also an excellent spectator sport, with plenty of thrills and spills to be seen out on the water.”

Another great event with the opportunity to have great close up views from the water whilst enjoying our fine onboard meals
